Logging In To WordPress for the First Time

After installing WordPress the first task is to login and change the admin password.

The default admin password is created for you as part of the install process and you should have made a note of it.

If you installed WordPress using simple scripts then it will also be emailed to you.

There are two methods of logging in to WordPress

  • From the Home Page- Most templates include a login link on theĀ  pages/posts so if you go to any page of the Site you can use the link to login.
  • Go direct to the admin Page-
This is located normally at: domainname/wp-admin, or www.domainname/wp-admin or domainname/wordpress/wp-admin. It depends on how you installed WordPress.
  • Examples:www.build-your-website.co.uk/wp-admin, and www.buildingwordpresswebsites.com/wp-admin

The default user created by the install is called admin.

The password is given on the install screen when you install, and you should change it as soon as possible to one you can remember.

You can create additional users at this time.
